Decorative Fountain Installation
Outdoor Fountains for Rhode Island, Eastern Connecticut & Southern Massachusetts
How a Decorative Fountain Works
Every fountain we install has three parts: the decorative piece you see, a buried basin that holds the water, and a small pump inside that basin. The water recirculates, so a fountain uses very little — mostly what evaporates on hot days. You’ll top it off with a hose every week or two in midsummer.
Because the water lives underground, a fountain stays cleaner than a birdbath and doesn’t need a pond’s filtration, plants or fish. It needs one outdoor electrical outlet (GFCI) within reach. If you don’t have one, we’ll tell you up front and include it in the quote.
Is a Fountain Right for You? The Honest Pros and Cons
Why people love them:
- Fits anywhere — a patio corner, an entryway, a small backyard
- Safe around children and pets: no standing water
- Very little maintenance compared to a pond
- Attracts birds, and the sound masks road and neighbor noise
- Installed in about a day for most single fountains
What to know before you buy:
- You need power nearby; adding an outlet adds cost
- In New England, fountains are shut down and drained for winter to prevent freeze damage to the vessel and pump. We offer winter shutdown as a service each fall, or we’ll show you how to do it yourself.
- A fountain gives you sound and movement, not a full water garden. If you want fish and plants, look at a koi pond. If you want a bigger waterfall with no pond, look at a pondless waterfall.
Popular Fountain Styles
- Bubbling urns and vases — glazed ceramic in a range of colors; the most popular choice for patios
- Basalt columns — natural stone with water bubbling from the top; one, two or three columns grouped together
- Spillway bowls — water cascades from bowl to bowl for a stronger sound
- Natural boulder fountains — drilled stone that blends into a garden bed
- Custom arrangements — multiple pieces, lighting and planting around the fountain

What Does a Fountain Cost to Keep?
Very little. Expect a small monthly electric cost for the pump, occasional top-offs, and a spring start-up and fall shutdown. We offer both as a service, or you can do them yourself with supplies from our Portsmouth store.

Pet photos with Santa are my favorite annual holiday tradition, and Domina’s Agway is always our go-to. We love coming here every year for this event. The store is beautifully decorated with stunning trees, wreaths, and holiday décor, and it’s always fun browsing everything else along the way (including turtles and fish!). Thank you for another wonderful event and for the treats for all. We’ll definitely be back soon to pick up more dog toys!Posted on Google![]()

Domina’s Agway has kept my ponds looking great year-round. It’s nice to know when I am not there that they are being cared for so well. And when I am there, I can enjoy them rather than having to work too. And Monika is always quick to follow up with me when I do not respond to make sure all is set. Customer Service is first class.Posted on Google![]()

We are beginner gardeners and the staff was extremely helpful, attentive, and encouraging of our new hobby. Bring the kids along, as there are fish and turtle ponds. This is the kind of place I would have brought my kids when they were toddlers, had I known about it then!
Why Work With a Master-Level Certified Aquascape Contractor?
Aquascape, Inc. is one of the largest manufacturers of pond and water feature products in the country, and its Certified Aquascape Contractor (CAC) program is how it vouches for the companies that build with them. CACs complete Aquascape’s training, build to its construction standards, and are held to its expectations for customer service and follow-up care. Domina’s Agway is certified at the master level. Our Portsmouth store also carries nearly the entire Aquascape product line, so the pumps, filters and water treatments we install are the same ones you can see, buy and get serviced locally.
