Seasonal Pond Maintenance
Pond Opening & Pond Closing
New England’s seasons are beautiful — and demanding. From the thaw of a Rhode Island spring to the first hard freeze of winter, your pond needs expert care at every transition. Domina’s Agway handles the full seasonal cycle, so your water feature stays healthy, clear, and ready to enjoy from the moment the ice melts to the day you button it up for winter.
Pond Maintenance Experts for the Southern Massachusetts & Eastern Connecticut Weather.
Our seasonal maintenance team serves pond owners across Rhode Island, Southern Massachusetts, and Eastern Connecticut. Whether your pond is a quiet backyard koi pond in Portsmouth or a sprawling water garden in the Connecticut River Valley, our Master Certified Aquascape technicians know what it takes to keep your water feature thriving through every season New England throws at it.
Pond Opening
Spring is the most critical time of year for your pond. After months of dormancy, your filtration system, fish, and plants all need careful attention to wake up safely. Our spring pond opening service gets everything running cleanly and efficiently — before algae gets a foothold and before your fish need peak water quality.
Pond Opening Inspection
- Drain and flush the pond basin
- Clean and restart filtration systems
- Inspect and test pumps and plumbing
- Treat water with beneficial bacteria and conditioners
- Assess fish health after winter
- Inspect and trim aquatic plants
- Re-foam waterfall rocks as needed
- Full water quality test

Fall and Winter Pond Care
A proper fall shutdown protects everything you’ve invested in your water feature. Skipping it — or doing it too late — can mean cracked equipment, stressed fish, and a messy spring cleanout. Our fall pond closing service takes the guesswork out of winterizing, so you can enjoy the season knowing your pond is protected.
Pond Closing
We offer both a Standard Fall Shutdown and our Deluxe Fall Shutdown, which includes two visits — one to tent and protect the pond, and a second to fully close it for the season. Our team handles everything from pump removal and filter cleaning to protective netting and winterizing treatments.
- Remove and store pumps and equipment
- Clean and flush filter systems
- Install protective pond netting
- Apply winter water treatments
- Assess fish health before dormancy
Don't wait until the first freeze. Fall closing slots book up quickly — contact us before the leaves start to turn.

Pet photos with Santa are my favorite annual holiday tradition, and Domina’s Agway is always our go-to. We love coming here every year for this event. The store is beautifully decorated with stunning trees, wreaths, and holiday décor, and it’s always fun browsing everything else along the way (including turtles and fish!). Thank you for another wonderful event and for the treats for all. We’ll definitely be back soon to pick up more dog toys!Posted on Jerilyn wingin itTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wonderful family owned business!!Posted on Laci JonesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Domina’s Agway has kept my ponds looking great year-round. It’s nice to know when I am not there that they are being cared for so well. And when I am there, I can enjoy them rather than having to work too. And Monika is always quick to follow up with me when I do not respond to make sure all is set. Customer Service is first class.Posted on Stephanie Van VoastTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great little place I went to the first time but always saw driving by, selection is quite impressive, reasonable prices and fall selection is pretty large. Would definitely recommend for all your backyard and feed needs, thanks again and will definitely returnPosted on K STrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Nick was very knowledgeable and helpful with my koi fish pond.Posted on Sheila DobbynTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We are beginner gardeners and the staff was extremely helpful, attentive, and encouraging of our new hobby. Bring the kids along, as there are fish and turtle ponds. This is the kind of place I would have brought my kids when they were toddlers, had I known about it then!
